Using "loose parts" the children had a chance to decorate a gingerbread man. The idea behind loose parts is that you use different materials to explore, build, create, and design an infinite number of 'masterpieces'. This allows for the students to focus on the Core Competency of Creative Thinking. Q-Tip painting not only provides the children with a fun way to explore with paint, it's also a great way to help develop a child's fine motor skills. The fine 'pinch' grip required to hold the small Q-tip in place and to move it around the paper to paint is ideal for building on those smaller muscles of the hand. The children got to Q-Tip paint a gingerbread man.
