As a part of our Physical Education program, the children will be taking part in three skating sessions. This was our first day at the arena. For some children it was their first time on skates. There was such an improvement in their skills in our hour on the ice! Thanks to our Big Buddies for being so encouraging and helpful. Also, thanks to the parents and grandparents for driving and helping out!

As a part of our "Healthy Me" theme we've been talking about eating healthy food from the four food groups. Ask your child if s/he can tell you the four food groups. We created a Healthy Food booklet that your child should have brought home. Ask your child to show it to you and tell you his/her favourite food from each food group. We have practiced sorting food (real & pretend) into the four food groups. We've also been looking at our snacks and lunches and deciding which food group some of our food items belong to. As part of our "Healthy Me" theme we spent some time talking about ways to keep our bodies busy and active. Then we got together with our Big Buddies and they did a body trace of each child doing a favourite activity. It was a very big job!! The Final Results: We made Cinnamon Snowflake Tortillas this week for snack. We cut our tortilla to look like a snowflake, then we fried it on the stove in a little butter, and then sprinkled it with cinnamon sugar. A nice winter snack! Thanks for helping us, Mrs. Walcher.
Nurse Nelly came to talk to us about how not to spread our germs - especially during cold season! The children all made "Sneezy Faces". AAAACHOO! Meet Nurse Nelly:The Process: The Final Product:
After reading The Mitten we decided to make our own mittens. We created a chart of different kinds of lines and shapes. Then we used some of those to decorate our mittens. The final step was the 'magic' part. We painted them with water - yes water - but they each came out a lovely pastel colour. Ask your child why that happened. Check them out:
So we asked this question: Then we made a graph. Our graph was a little bit different than usual. Each child got to 'hang' their answer.
This week we did a short literature study of the book The Mitten by Jan Brett. We have read the story a number of times and, using masks, the children re-enacted the story using our large mitten. As a part of math we have been practicing our estimating skills. The children had to guess how many 'snowballs' were in each jar. How many do you think there are? Here are our guesses. The actual number is in red. How did you do?
