It's hard to believe that the year has finished. The children and I created a list of all of the exciting things that we learned about, places we went, and things that we did over the course of the year. They have great memories. It was a very long list! Then each child chose one thing to draw about. Here are only a few things from our list:

We had a fantastic time at the Big Little Science Centre. Susan put on a "force and motion" presentation for us and had many of the students help. After the presentation we got to go into the "hands-on" room and try the many different science activities. It was lots of fun!! Thanks to all of the parents who drove us. The Kamloops Public Library offers an excellent Summer Reading Program. I highly recommend that you sign up your child. To register - just go into the library.
We had a fantastic day at Isobel Lake. The weather co-operated and the children had a great time. I've included some photos of our day. Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered their time and came with us on the trip. Pond Study with Mr. DeptuckNature Discoveries:We said "good-bye" to our butterflies and set them free to nature. Some hung around for a little while longer than others!
Our focus on insects was based mostly around butterflies. The best part of this learning was that we hatched our own butterflies in class. We watched them through the larva, pupa, and adult stages. This gave us many learning opportunities. We created individual butterfly life cycles using pasta noodles. We read the Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle many times and re-told it in many different ways - the flannel board as well as with the SMARTBoard. Our class mural:
Our "Spring Things" theme allowed us many opportunities to learn and focus on seeds, plants, and insects. We dissected bean seeds and looked for the embryos, seed coat and food storage. We created a list about plants: We created our own hand sunflower and then labeled the different parts of the plant.
