I'd like you to meet our Certified Education Assistant (CEA), Tracey. She works at our school and we are lucky to have her popping in and out of our classroom throughout the day. She assists the students in our classroom and is also a supervisor out on the playground.

We've been practicing our fire drill. We have done it a couple of times by ourselves but this past week we did one with the whole school. We are getting very good at it! Here are some of the things the children said that we need to remember when we do our fire drill at school:
We decided to make our class tree an apple tree since it is apple season. The children all traced and cut out their apples on the first day. It's tough work tracing and cutting! Then we decided that it would be nice to put our faces on our apples. The end result...
We introduced ourselves to each other and then afterwards we drew pictures of ourselves to put up in the room. Before the children drew themselves they helped me draw a picture of myself. We talked about all the things that I would need...head, arms, body, hair, eyes, etc. Then, off to the tables for everyone to do their own! Their finished self-portraits:
We had gingerbread men for our snack on Thursday but while they were cooling and we were out of the classroom - they ran away! Those sneaky gingerbread men!! They left us notes all around Westmount School. It was quite an exciting time hunting everywhere for them. We met a lot of people who work at the school and many of the bigger children. Just when we had given up hope... ...they returned!! We had fun decorating them... ...but the best part was when we got to eat them!!
This week we took our first trip to the library to take out a book. Our library day is Wednesdays so please help your child remember to bring back the book again next Wednesday. If the book is returned, s/he will be able to get a new one. Your child needs to transport his/her book back and forth between school and home in a bag to keep it clean and dry. We met our Library Assistant, Mrs. Lord, who helped us check out our books on the computer. This week we also met our Teacher-Librarian, Mrs. Sauer. She taught us a lot about the library and how to take care of things. We've had a great start-up to our kindergarten year! We've enjoyed meeting all our new friends and we are getting good at remembering each others' names. We have a fantastic group of friends!! Meet Our Kindergarten Crew! |
AuthorI'm Mrs. MacDonald. Welcome to a window into our kindergarten classroom. My goal of this blog is to give you an opportunity to see some of the things that we are doing at school. Enjoy! Archives
