The question was: What colour are your eyes? The children had to make their faces and then put it on the graph in the correct column. Together we analyzed the graph. We practiced our math skills of counting, comparing, and using terms such as 'most', 'least', and 'the same'. The process: The product:

This week we made "All About Me" booklets. Today we read them with our big buddies. It gave the big buddies a chance to learn a little bit more about their little buddies. They brought their booklets home today. Have them share the book with you. In honor of Remembrance Day the children all made large poppies. We put them up in the hallway going in to the gym for the school Remembrance Day Assembly. We created two class wreaths that were brought in to the Remembrance Day Assembly by two of our students. The students had to trace and cut their hands (tough cutting!!) out of green paper for our 'grassy' background and then everyone sponge-painted and cut out small red poppies to decorate the wreaths.
We've started our next theme on "Me, My Family, My Community". We started by focusing on each students name. We created a graph of how many letters are in each person's name.
The children all made Family Banners. They included everyone in their immediate family. Each child 'introduced' everyone in their family to the class. This is a great way for the children to practice their oral language skills and to be brave and speak in front of the whole class! Parents, I wanted you to know how hard the students worked on their Art Cards. With the help from Mrs. Char Marshall, a parent at our school, the children spent a day sponge painting the blue background. Then on another day, Mrs. Marshall took them one-by-one to sponge the white snowman. Finally, Mrs. Marshall came back for the last couple of days and worked one-on-one with each student to put on the final snowman details (hat, face, arms, etc). As you can see their (and Mrs. Marshall's) effort paid off with beautiful results. We were impressed with the cards and hope that you are pleased as well. Sorry, no photos :(
It was time to carve our pumpkin but what kind of face should we do? The children each made their choice and we used it to create a graph. Guess which one was the most? Did you guess right?
We were wondering if we put a pumpkin in a tub of water, would it sink or would it float? So...first of all we made a guess about what would happen. Then the children had a chance to test out their guess during Activity Time. Ask your child what happened. After we tested out our theory on the pumpkin we decided to check out whether some other objects would sink or float in water. What a fantastic looking group. I hardly recognized my students! Our big buddies invited us to their classroom to perform a french Halloween song for us.
It's been a busy...but fun...time getting ready for Halloween. We have tried many new Halloween activities this week.
