We played a new pumpkin math partner game this week. With a partner they took turns rolling the dice and colouring the pumpkin that matched the number on their dice. The children are getting quicker at being able to recognize the number of dots on the dice without having to count them each time. Instantly recognizing groups is an important math skill that we will be practicing throughout the year. The children also practiced being a good partner, taking turns, being patient and when the game was over they needed to thank their partner. They did an awesome job!

What kind of face should we carve our jack-o-lantern?That was our graphing question. So each child got to draw the face that they wanted, then they put it on our graph, and when everyone was finished the one with the most was the face that we would carve. The children had fun scooping out all the seeds and the pulp. Our finished product: We sure enjoyed Halloween day - our costume parade and our party!
We were thoroughly entertained by Sandra "Safire" Sommerville this past week. The children sure enjoyed her circus-style performance. She juggled many different objects but her finale was certainly a 'show stopper'. The lights were off while she juggled hoops and wands that lit up! We wondered that, too. So...we put it to the test. First we all got to hold our heavy pumpkin and then we made a guess whether we thought our heavy pumpkin would sink or float. Then we put our guess to the test.
