We were lucky to have a presenter from WildSafeBC come to do a presentation on how we can help reduce animal-human contact. We learned about different animals that live around our community and what we can do to limit attractants on our properties. We want to keep our communities safe for us and at the same time keep wildlife from coming to harm.
Another way that many of the children have been staying active in the classroom is with our indoor hopscotch. What a fun way to keep active but to also practice our large motor skills - like hopping, jumping, and throwing - as well as our social skills, such as taking turns. The children have done a wonderful job of encouraging each other and helping them learn to play the game in such a positive way! I'm so proud of how kind and thoughtful they are to one another. As a part of our Daily Physical Education (DPA) we have been movin' and groovin' with our scarves. Scarf dancing is a lot of fun!
We learned a new math game this week called Build A City. The children play it with a partner so they are learning great social skills, such as sharing, taking turns, and how to be a gracious winner and loser. We always shake hands with our partner at the end and thank them for playing. We are also practicing important math skills as well. They are learning to instantly recognize (and not have to count each time) the die every time they roll for their turn, they are practicing counting, as well as comparing at the end of the game. Ask your child how to play. Patterns are all around us. As a part of our math program, the children have been copying and extending patterns as well as creating their own using some of our class manipulatives. Here they are at work. Working on our different Halloween activities: Our Black CatsDrawing & Writing Centre ActivitiesWhat kind of face should we carve on our pumpkin? We created a graph and agreed that whatever most people wanted, that's the face it would have. It was pretty close. Check out our graph...and then our finished product! We enjoyed being a part of the Primary Costume Parade. The intermediate students cheered us on as we went past them. Looking good, everyone! Time to enjoy our party food! Our Big Buddy class learned a French Halloween song with their French teacher, Mr. Blower. They invited us to come and hear them. They did a fantastic job! They even scared us a little!!
