We were busy this week getting ready for our Thanksgiving holiday. The children created some turkeys using a variety of art materials, some made cornucopias, and we brainstormed things that we were thankful for. We hope that you liked seeing the Thanksgiving booklet that they brought home. Make sure your child sings you The Turkey Song! Happy Thanksgiving!

This week we read the book "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud. The book explains that everyone carries an invisible bucket that contains our feelings. When our buckets are full, we feel great but when our buckets are empty, we feel sad. In the classroom we have been focusing on being "bucket fillers" - someone who says or does nice things for other people. By being bucket fillers, the children not only fill other people's buckets but also their own at the same time. We also learned about "bucket dippers". A bucket dipper says or does things to cause other people to feel bad. A bucket dipper empties their bucket when they say and do mean things. We are learning to be bucket fillers not dippers!! We read some scenarios and decided if they were "bucket fillers" or "bucket dippers". We decided that we want to be a bucket filling class so we took the bucket filling pledge. We are working at trying to fill our class bucket - every time that someone does something that fills our buckets and makes us feel good, we put a jewel into our class bucket. Hopefully we can fill it by the end of the year!! At the end of the day we can ask ourselves: "Have I filled someone's bucket today?"
We were treated to a fantastic presentation by the Earth Rangers. They came to talk to us about animals and how we can protect their habitats. We were lucky to see animals up close. We have been enjoying our weekly buddy time with the grade four students in Mrs. Ruddick's class. Our focus on the season of Fall has meant that we have spent some time learning about apples. Many of the children have been busy with a number of 'apple activities'. Making apple people:Making apple crowns:Some students even made them in a pattern! Our apple orchard:Everyone made tissue paper apple trees to complete our apple orchard. Apple matching:Can you find the right card for each different kind of apple? Apple tasting:We got to taste four different kinds of apples. Then everyone had to choose their favourite. Here are the results:
We Are Good Friends! We brainstormed things that make a good friend and then we created our class book "We Are Good Friends!". They are definitely favourite books for the children to read during Book Times. Who Do You See?One of our favourite books is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. We used the template to make our own class book about all of the friends in our class. Another classroom favourite book!!
On Friday we met in the gym with the rest of the school to learn a bit more about Terry Fox and to get ready for our annual school run. A few women from the TRU Volleyball Team came to lead us in our warm up and then do the run with us. Great community leaders!! After the run we were pretty tired. Time to take a break!
